Starbucks Customers Can Now Pay With Bitcoin via Bakkt’s Digital Wallet App – Bitcoin News

Starbucks customers can now pay with bitcoins through the digital wallet app Bakkt. Bakkt CEO Gavin Michael said 500,000 users participated in pre-launch testing, while the company said it looks forward to expanding crypto assets to everyone.

You can now pay for items at Starbucks with bitcoins.

At the famous coffee chain Starbucks you can now pay with bitcoins via the Bakkt wallet. With more than 30,000 locations worldwide, Starbucks is the world’s largest coffeehouse chain, generating approximately $26.50 billion in revenue annually. According to Bakkt executives, 500,000 customers have participated in Bakkt’s invite-only early access program, and anyone can now download the app from the App Store and Google Play Store and use it to make purchases.

The average consumer has a wide range of digital assets – from gift cards to loyalty points to bitcoins – but lacks the tools to properly track and leverage their value, Bakkt CEO Gavin Michael said in the announcement. We are excited to introduce the Bakkt app to the public as a step toward improving access to digital assets for all.

Starbucks is not the only company accepting bitcoin through the Bakkt app, as companies like Golfnow, Best Buy, Choice Hotels and Fiserv are also participating. Carl Hebert, Starbucks vice president of global cards, commerce and payments, said the Starbucks team has been working closely with Bakkt team members.

Our teams worked closely together when Bakkt wanted to develop a unique and secure payment experience that would allow customers to unlock the value of their digital assets in the form of U.S. dollars, Hebert said.

Add to that the CEO of Starbucks:

We’re excited that customers can now use Bakkt to load up their Starbucks card in the Starbucks app and then pay with it at Starbucks.

In addition, Jerramy Hainline, senior vice president and CEO of Golfnow, said his company is also looking for an alternative payment system.

As a technology leader in our sport, Golfnow is excited to join Bakkt to further diversify our payment solutions for our more than 3.5 million members, Heinlein adds. The potential of our partner gifts is very attractive and creates the opportunity to make golf even more affordable by allowing our customers to convert crypto, gift cards and unused loyalty points into a round of golf.
