Fintor today announced the closing of a $2.5 million funding round. The company has a $500,000 investment fund that will be used to create an innovative shared ownership investment platform. Fintor, developed by series co-founders Farshad Yousefi and Masood Jalali, divides homes and other residential properties into fractions, giving Americans access to investment opportunities in the real estate category starting at $5.
Fintor’s funding round includes 500 Startups, Hustle Fund, Graphene Ventures, Manny Khoshbin, Mana Ventures and other notable investors like Cindy B, Skyler Fernandes, VU Venture Partners, Minal Hassan, Andrew Zalasin, CEO and founder of Alluxo Safa Mahzari, CEO of SquareFoot and founder of SquareFoot Jonathan Wasserstrum, CEO of Teachable and founder of Ankur Nagpal.
Although homeownership in America is often seen as an upward path to wealth, homeownership among American adults under 35 has fallen to an all-time low, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. High start-up costs and lack of cash flow are cited as the two biggest barriers to buying a home, let alone an income-generating investment property. With its real estate investment platform, Fintor aims to create a new way to invest in an asset class that would otherwise be unavailable.
At Fintor, we hope to appeal to a new generation of real estate investors. You no longer need hundreds of thousands of dollars and connections in the industry to profit from real estate, says co-founder and CEO Farshad Yousefi. We’re building Fintor to open up the asset class of real estate investing to millions of millennials and Z people who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity, and we’re making it easy to invest in real estate with $5 and a smartphone, Farshad said.
Fintor’s technology platform allows you to create a separate listing for each property sold through the platform. In this process, the asset is divided into shares, the share price is set and consumers can invest. Ultimately, the platform aims to provide investors with regular trading opportunities through trading windows that create liquidity for holders while protecting them from volatility.
We have a vision that will change the way people invest in real estate forever, Farshad said.
Fintor is a platform that allows users to buy and sell fractional real estate interests for as little as $5 in a few clicks. Fintor’s mission is to democratize real estate investment for all and provide investors, homeowners and newcomers with access and liquidity to the real estate markets. Headquartered in California, the company is backed by leading investors including 500 Startups, Hustle Fund, Graphene Ventures, Teachable CEO and founder Ankur Nagpal, and celebrity Manny Hoshbin.
